History & development
Transit work compares a later sky with a birth chart. Astrodienst documents this as a forecasting convention; Liz Greene presents a psychological approach. A return chart is a different construction, requiring the selected body's exact return to its natal longitude.
Mythology & symbolic world
The returning cycle supplies a symbolic image of renewal. Practitioners may read a solar return as an annual chapter or a lunar return as a shorter cycle. These narrative periods are interpretive conventions attached to an astronomical event.
Provenance: where the rules come from
Three workspaces are live. Transits compares an independently calculated sky with fixed natal positions. Exact transit events searches selected natal aspects, sign ingresses or longitude stations over a declared UTC interval and retains repeated crossings and sampled motion. Returns finds the first Sun/Moon natal-longitude crossing in its own window. A selected event or return can produce a full location chart at the unrounded UT1 Julian day. Each epoch uses the chosen zodiac at its own date; displayed house context is whole-sign.
How it is calculated
Choices that change the result: Transits retains its instant, reference, body, orb and native Moon/Lagna controls. Exact transit events adds mode, moving planet, natal target and one/all five major aspects, seven zodiac references, and a bounded UTC window. Select a dated list event below its sampled path, inspect its motion, and calculate its chart for a named place with coordinates and display zone. Returns retains Sun/Moon, seven references and its own 400-day window. Place labels do not look up coordinates; displayed event/return houses are whole-sign.
Inspect your calculated data →Uses & use cases
- Explore selected transit-to-natal contacts with the natal chart held fixed.
- Compare nearby dates, inspect the numerical evidence and download the chosen comparison.
- Find the first solar or lunar return in a chosen window and inspect the actual crossing time.
- Explore a selected return body, the return Ascendant and its classical ruler, then download the full exact chart and search evidence.
- Find repeated exact contacts from one moving planet to one natal target, with one major aspect or all five.
- Compare direct entries and retrograde re-entries into signs, or locate changes of longitude direction.
- Inspect the selected event chart, its sampled motion and numerical evidence, then download the search and chart.
Interpretation methods
Read the selected transit contact
Choose a transit body or contact row. Read the moving body's role beside the natal target, inspect the aspect and orb, then connect one concrete example to the displayed natal whole-sign topics.
A Saturn–Moon contact can prompt a review of responsibility and emotional needs. It does not establish an inevitable external event.
Read the exact return chart
Choose the Returns workspace and search the intended cycle. Read the returning body’s whole-sign house, then the return Ascendant and its classical ruler. Keep the birth chart as context. The Sun/Moon longitude match is built into the return.
Entering a birthday only suggests a search window; the solver finds the actual return instant. Changing the return location changes local axes and houses without changing that geocentric UTC crossing.
Use the stated reading context
Lahiri, Raman, Krishnamurti and Yukteshwar returns display seven classical grahas with Jyotish house topics, nakshatra/pada and D9 facts. Tropical, Fagan-Bradley and De Luce display ten planets with Western topics and five major within-return aspects at a fixed 4° orb.
A Lahiri solar return is a sidereal annual-chart foundation; it does not automatically compute Tajika’s year lord or configurations.
Follow a sequence of exact contacts
Choose the moving planet, fixed natal target and aspect. Read all found dates with their motion and aspect branch; compare the same natal topic across them. Check uncertainty notices before treating the sequence as complete.
A square can occur on either side of a natal longitude. Retrograde motion may revisit one branch, but occurrence 1 in a window need not be the first pass of the wider cycle.
Read sign entries in their own reference
Compare the before and after signs. For personal Western work, connect the selected body and sign with natal house topics. In native sidereal work, separately count the entered sign from natal Moon and Lagna.
Use a station as a deliberate review point
Read the direction transition and selected body before interpreting its sign or natal context. A station near a natal factor still needs a separate aspect search to establish an exact contact.
Stations direct means longitude begins increasing after decreasing. It does not establish that a stalled plan will now succeed.

Disagreements & limits
- The Transits snapshot uses five major aspects and instantaneous phase against a fixed natal target. Exact transit events performs a separate time search; an exact hit does not define its orb-entry or orb-exit period.
- The event finder supports ten moving planets and twelve natal targets: those planets, Ascendant and Midheaven. It searches 0°, 60°, 90°, 120° and 180° contacts, with both branches where distinct. Nodes, asteroids and other aspect angles are not included.
- Event windows are at most 730 days, or 90 days for the Moon, within 1800–2399. Candidates are included only after start plus one millisecond and through the end, using UTC rounded to milliseconds. The raw solved Julian day is retained.
- Finite sampling and adaptive subdivision do not prove mathematical completeness. Near-stationary target touches and unresolved intervals are reported as uncertainties; limits that stop calculation must not be presented as a complete result.
- Sign ingress uses equal 30° zodiac sectors, not constellation boundaries. A longitude station is frame dependent and is not a physical halt. The finder does not calculate orb-duration calendars, retrograde shadow intervals, house ingresses or certified exact tangencies.
- Transit-location houses are absent from the snapshot workspace. Event and return charts use their explicitly selected locations and whole-sign display; changing that location does not change these geocentric event instants.
- Returns finds the first supported Sun/Moon crossing in a window of at most 400 days. Its dedicated reading is distinct from using the event finder for repeated same-body conjunctions. Natal lunar-phase returns and precession-corrected tropical returns are not calculated.
- Sidereal degree-aspect searches are modern comparisons, not classical sign-counted graha drishti. Native sign ingress remains a gochara foundation without vedha, Ashtakavarga or integrated dasha judgement. A complete Tajika / Varshaphala judgement is not implemented.
- Small residuals describe numerical convergence in the selected model, not birth-time certainty, independent ephemeris accuracy or a verified personal forecast.
