History & development
Tajika is a Sanskrit adaptation of Perso-Arabic astrology, particularly associated with anniversary horoscopes. Martin Gansten’s critical edition of Balabhadra’s Hayanaratna documents this transmission and the work’s extensive engagement with earlier authorities. The dated treatise was written in 1649.
Mythology & symbolic world
The vocabulary has crossed languages and religious settings. This makes it a useful example of technical transmission: a Sanskrit term need not prove an exclusively Vedic origin. Symbolic annual significations are distinct from the geometry of the Sun’s return.
Provenance: where the rules come from
The historical sources provide Tajika’s translated rule corpus. The live Returns workspace now supplies a limited calculation foundation: a selected sidereal Sun return and its full chart at the exact solved Julian day. The native inspector displays graha, whole-sign bhava, Lagna ruler, nakshatra/pada and D9 facts. It does not apply the complete annual judgement rules.
How it is calculated
Choices that change the result: For a native sidereal foundation, choose Sun and Lahiri, Raman, Krishnamurti or Yukteshwar in Returns, a UTC window of up to 400 days and the declared return location. Tropical, Fagan-Bradley and De Luce are also available with Western reading context. The workspace also supports Moon returns, which are not automatically Tajika monthly revolutions.
Inspect your calculated data →Uses & use cases
- Explore the documented transmission of Tajika annual astrology.
- Calculate a declared sidereal annual-chart foundation and inspect the recorded time, coordinates and native chart facts.
- Identify the further rules needed for a named Tajika reading without treating the chart foundation as the complete system.
Interpretation methods
From a calculated return to a sourced annual judgement
Select the intended Sun return and confirm its sidereal reference and place. Inspect the exact return chart, then consult the named Tajika source for its additional aspects, configurations, annual rulers and period rules. Those further judgements are not generated here.
The return instant establishes when to cast the chart. The displayed Lagna ruler is the classical ruler of its rising sign; it is not automatically the Tajika year lord.

Disagreements & limits
- The live sidereal return is a calculation foundation, not a complete Tajika / Varshaphala implementation.
- Muntha, year-lord selection, Tajika-specific aspects and yogas, dignities/strength synthesis, sahamas and annual or subsidiary period judgements are not calculated by this workspace.
- A generic Western return interpretation and Parashari sign drishti cannot stand in for Tajika’s rules.
- Changing ayanamsha or return place must remain explicit. These choices and numerical convergence do not establish the predicted events.
Sources & evidence
Practitioner sources describe their own systems. Historical and astronomical sources support different kinds of claims. Reading exercises are editorial teaching examples.
