The prescribed channel map

All 36 gate pairs and their endpoint centers have been cross-checked against official Human Design diagrams and primary descriptions identifying the center shapes. This checks the conventional connection map; it does not certify astronomical birth calculations or the system’s interpretive claims.

Study 12 sourced channel themes

These are attributed themes for learning. Open a pair in the explorer to see whether it is complete, has one activated gate, or is inactive in your chart. The other pairs remain available as calculated connections while their teaching records are expanded.

A channel has a two-endpoint rule

A Human Design channel is a named, prescribed connection between two centers. Structurally, it becomes complete only when its two endpoint gates are activated. The rule is binary at the channel level: one endpoint is a hanging gate; two paired endpoints are a complete channel. Counting activations alone cannot tell the difference. Atlas uses this only for the graph calculation, not as evidence of a stable trait, health state, or life outcome.

Trace provenance before interpreting

The same completed channel can be supported by two birth-side activations, two design-side activations, or one of each. Select a channel and read its endpoint ledger: gate number, activation source, and whether the display is using birth, design, or both. For example, gate A in the birth list and partner B in the design list complete a combined view, while considering either epoch alone would leave a hanging gate.

Recheck after a convention change

The explorer’s true-node and mean-node options are alternative calculation conventions. If a node’s mapped gate changes, recheck the affected channels, then recalculate center and connectivity summaries from the full active set. Export the chosen node setting with endpoint lists and completion state. That makes a comparison reproducible and keeps Type and Authority separate from the connection diagram.

Separate complete, hanging, and inactive states

A listed channel is complete only when both prescribed endpoint gates are active in the selected activation view. One active endpoint is a hanging gate: it is visible evidence of an activation, but it does not define that channel or by itself define either center. With neither endpoint active, Atlas calls the channel inactive in that selected view. This three-state display is a transparent graph summary, not a measure of personality or health.

The endpoint ledger combines birth and design activations. One endpoint can come from birth and its partner from design. A node-convention change can alter a gate assignment, so retain the selected nodes when comparing or downloading the result.

Use a channel theme as a bounded prompt

The explorer separates a complete channel in your chart from studying an uncompleted pair. A sourced name and theme can help you learn the vocabulary; the status label tells you whether both gates are active. Use a complete-channel reflection alongside actual observations and counterexamples. A name does not establish a personality trait or predict an outcome.

One gate can participate in several pairs

Follow a shared gate in the channel inspector to see each of its other prescribed partners. The neighboring cards keep the current node convention and show whether the partner is active. Opening one changes the selected pair and its reading; it does not change the birth data. This is a way to trace the graph, not a rule that all channels sharing a gate have the same meaning.

Worked example: if only gates 10 and 34 are active, 10–34 is complete. The pairs 10–20, 10–57, 20–34 and 34–57 each have one active endpoint, while 20–57 has neither. If 20 and 57 also become active, all six prescribed pairs are complete. These are deliberately small structural examples, not full birth charts. A crossed line in the drawing does not add another center or activation.

Integration is four channels, not every shared-gate pair

Jovian Archive assigns 10–20, 10–57, 20–34 and 34–57 to Integration; 10–34 to Centering; and 20–57 to Knowing.

These labels describe the tradition’s grouping, independently of which channels are complete in your chart. Sharing a gate is a structural relationship; belonging to a named circuit is an attributed classification. The modern commentary used here provides limited thematic guidance, rather than a complete reading of each channel.
