Undefined is not empty
An undefined center has no completed channel. It may still contain active gates: an active endpoint without its channel partner is a hanging gate. Atlas therefore distinguishes undefined from completely open, which additionally means that no gate in that center is active.
Inspect the active-gate list and each adjacent channel before reading the label. This keeps a visible endpoint from being mistaken for a completed connection.
Attribute carefully
Jovian Archive discusses undefined centers as openness and possible conditioning within Human Design. Atlas reports that as a tradition-specific interpretation, not proof that a person is weak, influenced, or having a particular experience.
Apply a center theme only after showing the graph result. Specialized authority pages impose additional conditions, so openness in one center is not enough to infer an authority classification.
Compare chart states
Suppose gate 11 is Ajna’s only active gate and its channel partner 56 is inactive. Ajna is undefined because that channel is incomplete, but it is not completely open because an Ajna gate is active. In another chart state, no Ajna gates are active; Atlas then records completely open.
Use the same check for each center: list active gates, inspect connected channels, preserve the calculation convention, then add an attributed meaning and an original reflection. The result remains a symbolic framework, not a personal diagnosis.
