Word origin · etymology
Sanskrit sūkṣma-daśā, 'fine period'.
Rao calls the sub-periods in pratyantardasas sookshma-antardasas, or sookshma dasas. Wiktionary glosses sūkṣma 'subtle, minute, exact'. The name says only that the period is a fine division; it is no claim about subtlety of effect.[1][3]

Nested period arithmetic
The division is the same proportion as at every level and can be recomputed exactly. At this depth the dates depend on the minute of the birth time: one minute shifts every date by up to about five days, which is more than a sookshma dasha at its shortest. The levels from here down show how the rule works and are not a record of events.[2]
