Prana dasha

In this entry

Also called prana antardasha · prāṇa daśā · prana-antardasa

In the Vimshottari system, a period of the fifth level: a sookshma dasha divided among the nine lords in proportion to their years out of 120. At 365.25-day years it lasts from about 20 minutes to about 5.6 days. The Vimshottari page divides to this level and stops.

Word origin · etymology

Sanskrit prāṇa-daśā, 'breath period'.

Rao names the sub-periods in sookshma dasas prana-antardasas, or prana dasas. Wiktionary glosses prāṇa 'breath, life' and analyses it as pra- with an. Why the fifth level carries this name is not stated in the source read.[1][3]

How we know · epistemology

Nested period arithmetic

The division is the same proportion applied once more and can be recomputed exactly. Rao names a sixth level, the deha dasha, and says the procedure goes on; the page stops at the prana dasha because a period of minutes depends wholly on the minute of birth. A convention of where to stop, not a finding.[1][2]
