How to use Harmonic explorer

Reveal a natal aspect family by multiplying each selected ecliptic longitude by harmonic number h and wrapping the result into 0–360°. Conjunctions in the transformed chart can reveal separations of 360°/h and its multiples in the source chart. Astrodienst chart documentation

Inputs: Source planetary longitudes in a stated zodiac/frame; harmonic number; planet selection and aspect tolerance. If derived from birth data, retain its time quality. Only include transformed angles when their source time and the method support them.

  1. Choose the source chart and an integer harmonic, such as 5.
  2. Generate the transformed wheel and positions table.
  3. Select a conjunction or pattern and compare it with the natal angular separations.
  4. Read both the harmonic-chart orb and its source-chart equivalent.
  5. Compare another harmonic while retaining the natal chart beside it.
Teaching example · invented coordinates

Planet A at longitude 10° and B at 82° are 72° apart. At h = 5, A becomes 50° and B becomes 410° mod 360° = 50°: an exact conjunction. Change B to 82.2° and its transformed position is 51°, leaving a 1° harmonic-chart orb. That corresponds to a 0.2° natal deviation from 72°. Multiplication method, first-party harmonic dictionary

The fifth harmonic is not automatically the fifth house. A conjunction in h = 4 could derive from a natal conjunction, square or opposition. A harmonic chart is a mathematical transformation, not the sky at another time. A close pattern in a high harmonic is more sensitive to source-position uncertainty. State whether the mode accepts integers only, fractional harmonics or an age-derived value. Default this guide to aspect exploration; interpretation of transformed signs and houses requires a separately named convention. Do not treat a Western h = 9 analysis as interchangeable with a Jyotish Navamsa reading merely because related arithmetic is involved. Preserve the original aspect and any lower-harmonic relationship in the inspector.

How to use Vibrational patterns

Search a selected harmonic range for connected planetary patterns, then inspect the contributing geometry and midpoint structures. Kepler documents multi-planet harmonic searches and an option to retain only the lowest harmonic found for a combination. Kepler research documentation

Inputs: Source longitudes; planet set; harmonic range; minimum pattern size; declared harmonic-chart orb; whether to include related higher harmonics; and the actual ranking rule, if any. A score should identify the rule that produced it.

  1. Choose a maximum harmonic from 1 to 360, an orb, minimum group size and the planets to include. The search starts at H1.
  2. Run the search and select one returned planetary group.
  3. Inspect its harmonic wheel, pairwise separations, source-chart equivalents and worst orb.
  4. Compare related harmonics. The primitive-order filter removes individual edges whose exact fraction reduces to a lower harmonic; it is not Kepler’s lowest-harmonic-per-combination filter.
  5. Open Harmonics to inspect midpoints. Write an interpretation using a named author’s conventions; no proprietary weighting or personality score is supplied.
Teaching example · invented coordinates

Choose a 2° harmonic-conjunction tolerance. A = 10°, B = 82.2° and C = 154.1° become 50°, 51° and 50.5° at h = 5. All three fit within a 1° span, so the group passes this illustrative rule. At h = 10 they become 100°, 102° and 101°; this is related to the h = 5 result. In the source chart, B is 0.15° from the direct midpoint of A and C: (10 + 154.1)/2 = 82.05°. Show that supporting geometry explicitly. These numbers demonstrate the search, not a personality diagnosis or Cochrane's proprietary scoring.

“Vibration” here names an astrological harmonic framework, not a measured frequency in hertz. More matches can result from wider orbs or a larger search range. Related harmonics are not independent confirmations. Tight geometry is not a confidence percentage for an interpretation. Cochrane's 2012 study uses a harmonic-conjunction reference orb of 16° and natal allowances proportional to 16/h. That is a named source convention, not the only possible threshold. Its approach emphasizes multi-planet aspects and symmetry; do not silently add sign-rulership or house-based rules. Use “Cochrane-inspired” unless the implemented search and interpretation method have been matched to a specified source. His published study itself treats the proposed meanings as tentative. Cochrane Results sort by harmonic number, then maximum orb. All-pairs groups require every pair to meet the tolerance; connected groups can include chains with more distant endpoints.

History & development

Modern harmonic astrology is closely associated with John Addey and later authors such as David Hamblin. Hamblin's own account describes both this development and David Cochrane's related vibrational approach. These schools give numbers and aspect families interpretive importance, but do not share a universally standardized meaning for every harmonic.

Mythology & symbolic world

Musical harmony and number symbolism provide analogies for patterned relationships. A harmonic chart is a mathematical remapping; its existence does not demonstrate a physical vibration traveling from planets to people.

Provenance: where the rules come from

Record the multiplication factor, original coordinate frame, included points and tolerance. Keep a named author's harmonic interpretation separate from the arithmetic.

How it is calculated

Integer H1–360: N × longitude modulo 360. Inspect harmonic conjunctions, natal orb equivalents, midpoint branches, antiscia and multi-planet groups.

Choices that change the result: The primitive-edge filter differs from lowest harmonic per combination. No proprietary vibrational scoring.

Pattern inspection

Multiply each longitude by N and reduce modulo 360. Trace each apparent conjunction back to its original angular separation before applying a symbolic reading.

Disagreements & limits

  • High factors amplify input error and create more opportunities for selective pattern finding.
