Sanskrit and English compound.
Rāśi means a heap, collection, or quantity, and also a zodiac sign. Chart and the D1 notation are English technical labeling.

Primary chart convention
Planetary longitudes are assigned to signs before further divisional mapping. Comparing charts requires the same zodiac and reference settings; the chart layout itself does not supply evidence for the meanings assigned to its placements.
