Historical and textual reconstruction

Ask what a practice meant to its original users before applying modern chart categories. Tablets, monuments, manuscripts and later translations provide different kinds of evidence. Reconstruction compares these materials and marks gaps; it does not presume that present-day terminology captures every earlier tradition.

A reading workflow

  1. Identify the object or text, date, place and transmission history.
  2. Distinguish original evidence from later commentary and modern reconstruction.
  3. Translate technical terms cautiously and record alternatives.
  4. Use astronomy to investigate possible conditions without treating it as proof of the associated omen.

Where this approach stops

Damaged sources, uncertain dating and changing star identifications can prevent a unique reconstruction. A modern birthday chart does not substitute for that evidence.
